About the QBCC Trade Contractors licence

The QBCC regulates who can start a contracting business in Queensland for the building and construction trades.

Tradespeople who are applying for a contractor or nominee supervisor licence in any of the trade contractor classes must submit a completed contractor or nominee supervisor (trade classes) licence application form.

You will need to apply for a QBCC licence before you can begin construction work in Queensland, even if you have a licence from another state.


When do you need a QBCC Trade Contractor licence?

You need to complete the QBCC managerial course if you are an individual (sole trader, partner, or trustee) or a company who subcontracts in Queensland to a licenced builder or a licenced building inspector.

Check whether you need a QBCC licence if you carry out any building work, including work involving:

  • Hydraulics services design
  • Drainage
  • Plumbing and Drainage
  • Gas Fitting
  • Termite Management - Chemical
  • Fire Protection
  • Completed residential building inspection
