NSW White Card Course Information

Course Code: CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

If you work on a construction site in Australia, then you need to complete an accredited General Construction Induction Training (GIT) course (CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry).

Upon successful completion, you will be issued with a white card which you will present at site inductions. It’s proof that you’ve learnt how to work safely on a construction jobsite.

You can get your white card by completing our NSW White Card course delivered face-to-face by experienced and engaging trainers. Delivered over 6 hours plus 2 x 30 min breaks, we supply all resources, assessment and personal protective equipment (PPE) to complete the course. Our course includes the SafeWork NSW card fee. Inscope will pay this fee to SafeWork NSW on your behalf, on successful completion of the course.

Requirements

  • You must attend the face-to-face class in New South Wales (Are you in another state? Find the White Card course for your state or territory. NOTE: You can enrol in a NSW White Card course if you live in another State, but you MUST attend the face-to-face class delivered in New South Wales.
  • you must be over 14 years of age or over
  • provide 100 points of original identification in the same name showing:
    a. photo;
    b. date of birth;
    c. signature;
    d. current residential address.

  • An English language, Literacy and Numeracy skill level of 1
  • A Unique Student Identifier (USI). Apply for a USI at usi.gov.au

Learning Outcomes

This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. It requires you to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislation requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to yourself and others.

At the successful completion of this unit you will be able to:

  • Identify health and safety legislative requirements of construction work.
  • Identify construction hazards and risk control measures.
  • Identify health and safety communication and reporting processes.
  • Identify incident and emergency response procedures.

Assessment

From 7 April 2023, RTOs must use the mandated assessment provided by the SafeWork NSW to determine the student's competency.

Assessment consists of four tasks:

  1. Task one (AT1) – series of multiple choice and short answer questions.
  2. Task two (AT2) – questions requiring oral responses.
  3. Task three (AT3) – complete a form.
  4. Task four (AT4) – demonstration of correctly fitting personal protective equipment (PPE).

You must complete the assessment in front of your assessor and on the day of your training.

  • What form of ID is acceptable for the White Card?

    WA and Tasmania White Card course

    Any one of the following forms of photo ID is acceptable for the WA and Tasmania White Card course:

    • Australian Driver's Licence
    • Passport
    • School ID
    • Proof of age card

    Queensland White Card course

    For the Queensland White Card you must be able to provide Inscope Training three identification documents (At least one of the ID documents must be photographic).. These documents must include 1 or 2 of the following:

    • Australian driver's licence or learners permit, and/or
    • Australian Birth Certificate - full (not an extract), and/or
    • Your passport
    Plus 1 or 2 from the following to make up 3 documents:
    • Medicare card, or
    • Credit/debit card, or
    • Proof of Age Card
    • Visa documents

    Additional id requirements for Secondary School Student
    • Student id issued by school containing the school crest/seal or stamp. Must include student's photo, name and date of birth, or
    • A written statement on school letterhead that includes the student's full name and date of birth, and confirming the student attends the institution. Statement must be signed by one of the following school officials:
      • principal or deputy principal, or
      • head teacher or deputy head teacher, or
      • secretary or deputy secretary, or
      • chief administrator or deputy chief administrator.

    NSW White Card course

    For the NSW White Card you must be able to provide Inscope Training 100 points of Evidence of Identity (EOI). Evidence must be originals.

    • Passport (current or expired within last 2 years, but not cancelled), or
    • Australian citizenship certificate.

    Secondary documents (combination of secondary documents).

  • Is the White Card recognised in all Australian states and territories?

    Yes. Although issued in the state to which you reside at the time of completing the course, your White Card is accepted in ALL Australian states and territories.

  • How do I know if the White Card course I’m enrolled in is accredited?

    There are four things to look for to know if your course is accredited:

    1. Training providers issue a CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry “Statement of Attainment”. If they issue a “certificate of completion” or a “Statement of Approval” or something else, it is probably NOT the accredited White Card course.

    2. The Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) logo is displayed

    3. You are issued a state government White Card on successful completion of course CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry. (excluding Tasmania)

    4. Whether the course is offered by an accredited Registered Training Organisation (RTO). RTOs are issued with a number when they are accredited, and they generally display this number on their website. Inscope Training’s is RTO 40926

  • Can I apply for Recognition of Prior Learning?

    Queensland and New South Wales White Card

    The State Regulator does not permit RPL for this unit of competency in Queensland or New South Wales for issuing a white card. You must complete the current course CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry in your state.


    WA and Tasmania White Card

  • How is the White Card course delivered?

    The White Card course is delivered differently in each state to comply with the State Regulator requirements.


    WA and Tasmania White Card Course

    You MUST reside in WA or Tasmania at the time you are completing the course.

    The theory is delivered online via a series of videos and multichoice questions. Upon completion of the theory, you will be required to turn on your webcam to deliver your verbal communication assessments and PPE demonstration. The assessment and demonstration will be viewed by our trainers. If there is problems with the recording or you have not successfully completed the assessment and/or demonstration our trainers will notify you by email.


    Queensland White Card course

    You MUST reside in Queensland at the time you are completing the course.

    The theory for this course will be provided to you by your trainer using the Zoom web conferencing app. When you enrol, you will be sent an email with the date and time of your course, and also a link to the Zoom meeting. You must join the Zoom meeting 15 minutes before the scheduled start.

    For students attending our face-to-face class at our Capalaba Training Centre, we will set you up on our computers for assessment but your Trainer will deliver and be present in the room. Doors open from 7am and you must arrive no later than 7.15 am.

    During the course presentation you will need to be visible to our trainer at all times. The class will last 4.5 - 6 hours, so it is a good idea to connect your device to a charger if you booked into our virtual classroom. You will be assessed based on the information provided in the course, so make sure you pay attention at all times!. You have 3 attempts to answer each assessment question correctly to successfully complete this course.

    Your trainer will provide two 10-minute breaks during the course.

    At the completion of the theory part of the course, you will be required to answer the written assessment. For our virtual classes your trainer will invite you to join a virtual breakout room to conduct your oral assessments and PPE demonstration. Your trainer will also verify your identification documents at this time, so make sure you have them handy.


    New South Wales White Card course

    The regulator states you MUST be physically in NSW at the time you attend a NSW White Card course.

    The good news is that we delivery our NSW White Card course face-to-face in a classroom with the trainer present in the room (NOT via virtual classroom). The class will run for 6 hours with two x 30 minute breaks.

    During the 6 hours the trainers will present learning material and assess participants with the mandated assessments which includes a series of multiple choice and short answer questions, questions requiring oral responses, completing a form, and demonstrating the correct fitting of PPE. Inscope Training will provide all necessary learning and assessment materials including PPE.

    Upon successful completion, you will be issued with a Statement of Training (SOT) and your White Card application lodged with SafeWork NSW (SafeWork NSW will post your White Card within 14 days).


    Inscope Training expects all students to adhere to the behaviour and discipline requirements as outlined in our Short Course Student Guide.

  • When do I pay for the course?

    WA and Tasmania White Card course

    Payment is required before you can get access to complete the practical component of the course.



    Queensland and New South Wales White Card course

    Payment will be required before confirmation of your face-to-face or online class booking. Note: We DO NOT accept cash for payment.

  • Are there any extra fees?

    No, the advertised cost of the course includes your White Card and postage (excluding Tasmania). You can choose to purchase Express Postage and/or Priority Mail and/or additional products such as an SMS sent to you with a picture of your White Card (excluding NSW and Tasmania) in addition to the standard fee if desired. Additional products will be provided as an option to select at the time of payment.

  • When do I get my White Card?

    WA and Queensland White Card

    Upon successful completion you will receive your Statement of Attainment, White Card number, and an image of your White Card via email. Your card will be posted the next business day to the address you provide.

    If you attend our face-to-face class at our Capalaba Training Centre, you will receive your White Card and Statement of Attainment before you leave.


    Tasmania White Card course

    Upon successful completion you will receive your Statement of Attainment via email. You must lodge your White Card application in person at a Service Tasmania Outlet within 60 days of the date we issue your Statement of Attainment.


    New South Wales White Card course

    Upon successful completion you will receive your Statement of Attainment via email and your Statement of Training (SOT) in person. We will lodge your White Card application (fee included in course fee) to SafeWork NSW will then send your White Card in the mail (allow 14 business days). SOT's can be used as evidence while waiting for your White Card.


  • Do White Cards expire?

    While there aren’t any expiry dates set for the current White Card, if you haven’t been working in the construction industry for 2 years or more or have misplaced or lost your White Card, it is recommended that you replace or upskill by completing a White Card course.

  • Do I have to use a webcam to complete the White Card course?

    Western Australia and Tasmania White Card course

    If you are completing the WA or Tasmania White Card course (you MUST be residing in the state that you do the course), you do not need to have a webcam whilst doing the theory component of the course. However, you will need to use a webcam or the camera on your phone to access our online classroom to complete the verbal communication and PPE parts of the course.


    Queensland White Card course

    If you are completing the Queensland White Card course (you MUST be residing in the state that you do the course), then you will need a webcam or phone camera at all times whilst doing the virtual class. We use the webcam to obtain your ID, take verification photos (to ensure that it really was you doing the course), and to allow you to deliver your practical and oral assessment with your trainer. If you do not have access to a PPE kit or a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a webcam you can attend our face-to-face class at our Capalaba Training Centre, where we provide you with computer access and PPE for free.

    New South Wales White Card course

    If you are completing the New South Wales White Card course (you MUST be residing in the state that you do the course), we only offer this face-to-face. We will provide all learning resources, assessment and PPE to complete assessments.

  • What level of literacy and numeracy do I need?

    You will need to be able to speak and understand English and we feel you should have level 1 skills in literacy and numeracy to successfully complete our course. If you are unsure what level your skills are at, try our free Language Literacy and Numeracy Indicator Tool.

  • I've completed the course but I haven't received my White Card? (excluding Tasmania and New South Wales)

    Delivery times with Australia Post vary greatly depending on your location, and the postage type you have selected. If you have not received your White Card after 2 weeks, please contact us

    State Regulators requires that all cards be accounted for. We will notify you via email if we receive your White Card returned in the mail. We will repost your card once you have provided your correct address and paid the re-postage and admin fee.

    If you contact us after 60 days, you will be required to complete a Replacement White Card course at an additional cost.

  • Replacement White Card - How do I get one?

    If you have previously held a Queensland or Western Australia-issued White Card from 2009 onwards, and you still have your Statement of Attainment, you can apply for a replacement card by starting our Replacement White Card course.

    The Replacement White Card process is as follows:

    • Step 1 - Read our Introduction to make sure you qualify for a replacement card.
    • Step 2 - Provide us with some personal details and delivery address.
    • Step 3 – Upload your original Statement of Attainment (It must have the course code: CPCCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry or CPCCOHS1001A - Work safely in the construction industry)
    • Step 4 - Complete an online declaration outlining the circumstances around your lost, stolen or destroyed White Card.
    • Step 5 – Provide us with your electronic signature online so we can put it on your new card.

    The cost of issuing a replacement White Card is $45.00


    If you have previously held a New South Wales or Tasmania issued White Card, please contact the regulator in your State.


  • My Blue Card has been damaged, can I replace it with a White Card?

    No, the old Blue Cards can’t be replaced with current White Cards. You’ll need to redo the White Card course based on your state of residence.
