Overview

CPCCWHS2001 Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry, covers fundamental WHS requirements necessary to undertake work tasks within any sector in the construction industry. It includes the identification of hazardous materials, including asbestos, and compliance with legislated work safety practices. It does not cover removal of asbestos, which is a licensed activity.

You will learn how to identify and assess risks, identify hazardous materials and other hazards on the worksite, plan prepare and apply safe work practices, and follow emergency procedures.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to complete 3 practical activities that require you to upload photo evidence of yourself completing the activities.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for people who are applying to the QBCC for a contractor's licence and require this Unit of Competency for their application.

This course is also a pre-requisite for anyone wishing to complete the newly released Nationally recognised Training courses in Crystaline Silica Awareness:

  • CPCSIL2001 - Use and maintain respiratory protective equipment
  • CPCSIL3001 - Work with products and materials containing crystalline silica
  • CPCSIL4001 - Supervise and manage work with products and materials generating respirable crystalline silica


Some trade qualifications that include this Unit of Competency include:
  • Certificate III in Carpentry
  • Certificate III in Painting and Decorating
  • Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling
  • Certificate III in Civil Construction
  • Certificate III in Scaffolding
  • Certificate III in Concreting
  • Certificate III in Flooring Technology

Assessment

This course is made up of an online component, and a practical assessment component.

The Online component of this course covers the topics of:

  • Identifying and assessing risks
  • Site inspection activities
  • Identifying hazards and hazardous materials
  • Planning and implementing safe work practices
  • Applying safe work practices
  • Following emergency procedures
  • First Aid review


The Practical component of this course is made up of 3 exercises that must be completed. These tasks entail:
  • Setting up to perform a work task.
  • Performing house-keeping duties
  • Using a hazardous chemical


You will be required to gather video or photographic evidence of yourself performing these tasks and uploading them into your course as part of the evidence requirements for this course.

Your practical assessment is completed face-to-face, and you can easily book a time that works for you using our online booking system. To successfully complete the course and receive your certification, all assessments must be completed and passed.

Entry Requirements

The course requires:

  • Access to a computer, laptop, or mobile computer device.
  • Connection to the internet.
  • Access to a workplace to complete 3 practical assessments.
  • Access to a camera or phone to record evidence of you completing the practical assessments, and to record some verbal answers using our on-line classroom.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills to level 2 or 3. If in doubt, we strongly recommend you make use of our free LL&N Assessment Tool to help decide if you have the necessary literacy and numeracy skills needed to successfully complete this course.

  • From 1 July 2025, new national requirements mean we’ll need to assess your existing skills before finalising your enrolment. As part of your application, we’ll ask a few simple questions to check that your Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) skills — along with your physical readiness — align with the course requirements. It’s all about making sure you’re set up for success from the very start!


    Enrolment in this course is not confirmed until all pre-enrolment tasks are completed and payment is made.

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) regulates who can legally contract for building work in Queensland. To apply for a QBCC Trade Contractor or Nominee Supervisor Licence, you’ll need:

  • A recognised technical qualification in your trade.
  • This managerial qualification, which covers key business, compliance, and supervisory knowledge
  • A completed QBCC licence application


Even if you’re already licensed in another state, you must apply for a QBCC licence before starting construction work in Queensland.

Do you need a QBCC licence?
If you're planning to subcontract as a sole trader, company, or partnership — or act as a nominee supervisor — a QBCC Trade Contractor licence is required. This applies to a wide range of building work including:
  • Plumbing and Drainage
  • Gas Fitting
  • Termite Management (Chemical)
  • Hydraulics Services Design
  • Fire Protection
  • Residential Building Inspections
  • Building (Low Rise, Medium Rise, Open Site)
