Silica dust has been a long-standing health hazard that has caused a great deal of disease and death. Inhaling dust that contains silica particles can build up in the lungs over many years and scar them, resulting in silicosis.
In May 2023, Australia's first Silica Dust code of practice for the construction industry was introduced. Our Silica Code of Practice Awareness course, details how to eliminate or minimise exposure to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) at work and meet your obligations under the code of practice.
Our silica code of practice awareness training is provided 100% online. Each part is interactive with multiple-choice questions to improve knowledge retention. For your convenience, it can be completed over time, and your progress will be saved so you can log in and out at your leisure.
Anyone who is likely to be exposed to respirable crystalline silica (silica dust) in their normal work environment as well as duty holders should be provided with appropriate training.
Please note that WorkSafe ACT mandates that workers in the Australian Capital Territory must complete a specific nationally accredited course called "1083NAT - Course in silica exposure and prevention". This is NOT that course.
